An exhibition of archival materials was held in memory of Suvarana Karnataka

He was speaking after the inauguration of an exhibition of archival materials and rare photographs in memory of Suvarna Karnataka@50 at MMK & SDM Women’s College in the city. He said that since the State Archives Department was established in 1973, it has been collecting and preserving historically important records and archive materials dating back more than 200 years. These are available for reference purposes for the general public as well as academics and historians, Mr. Gavisiddaiah said.

He said that in addition to audio recordings, the Archives Department also has published and unpublished recordings, files and rare photographs. Mr. said this includes the history of Karnataka, the history of the princely state of Mysore, the movement to unite Karnataka, records related to the Freedom Struggle, census reports, administrative matters, minutes of Prajapratinidhi Sabhas, records of the administrative office of Mysuru Palace, etc. He said it was covered. .

Besides interviews and audio recordings of prominent personalities, there are old records and materials of various departments, including various notifications of the forest department issued decades ago, revenue-related matters, minutes of the Mysore Government, minutes related to various areas under the Madras Presidency. The director said the department has digitized around 1.3 crore documents and records so far, which are available on the web and can be accessed at www.kannadasiri.kar.nic.in.

The exhibition includes rare photographs related to the unification of the state, some orders given by the Princely State of Mysore, photographs of maharajas and some divans, invitations, past prime ministers of the State, etc. was exhibited. Mr. Gavisiddaiah, in his absence, said: Because of such records future generations would remain ignorant of the past and the forces that shaped the birth of the State.

Preethi Shubhachandra, professor emeritus of Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies, said that without knowledge of the past, it would not be possible to solve the problems and problems plaguing the present.
