Man shot by police in Monticello shooting – Daily Leader

An unidentified man was shot by a police officer in Monticello on Wednesday, suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers with the Monticello Police Department encountered a subject pointing a gun at them as they entered a vehicle near a gas station. Then a police officer fired his gun and attacked the person.

The individual then transported himself to a local hospital. The officers involved did not suffer any serious injuries.

This information is preliminary and may change. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident and gathering evidence. Upon completion of the investigation, MBI agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.

Monticello Police Chief Jeffrey Letchworth said Thursday that he could not provide further details about the incident because it is currently under investigation by the MBI.
