Johnstown man accused of raping 8-year-old boy

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Johnstown man is facing charges after allegedly raping and performing sexual acts on a minor in October.

According to the criminal complaint, 29-year-old Mikel Gwinn faced charges after a man contacted police about an alleged rape. On October 6, officers with the Upper Yoder Township Police Department were contacted regarding the alleged child rape.

DOJ: Altoona man guilty of possession of child sexual abuse material

In a police statement, the 8-year-old boy told officers Gwinn raped him and performed sexual acts on him from Oct. 5 to Oct. 6. The boy also told officers Gwinn showed him pornographic videos. affidavit.

Gwinn allegedly escaped from police custody on October 17 but was taken into custody on November 6.

Gwinn is being held in the Cambria County Jail and bail is set at 10% of $500,000. He faces misdemeanor charges of rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, involuntary sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault and misdemeanor indecent assault on a person. Gwinn also faces a felony escape charge and has a separate bail set at 10% of $500,000.

The preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 13.
