Daytona Beach police say body was found stabbed in apartment bathroom

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Police found a body in the bathroom of a Daytona Beach apartment complex early Thursday morning, according to the police department.

In a statement, investigators said they responded to 300 Alva Circle around midnight after receiving a report of a stabbing.

“The witness stated that the victim and the suspect were still in their apartment,” the statement said. “After entering the apartment, officers noticed the victim was unresponsive in the bathroom and had multiple stab wounds. Medical personnel arrived a short time later and pronounced the victim dead.”

Detectives said they learned the witness was outside the apartment most of the day.

Detectives added that the witness later returned and began preparing dinner, but when neither the stabbing victim nor the suspect left their bedroom for an extended period of time, the witness went to look for them.

But while the witness went to look for them, the suspect left the bedroom, according to police.

“The witness could see a light was on in the bathroom,” the statement reads. “The witness pushed past the suspect and found the victim’s body.”

Police later said the suspect (18-year-old Chadley Joseph) was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is not being held on any bail.

Police identified the victim as 30-year-old Sham Telfort.

This is an ongoing investigation. No additional information has been provided at this time.
