Former coach sentenced to life imprisonment, fined Sh90m

A former football coach has been sentenced to life in prison for defiling minors under his supervision as a coach.

Kilifi Chief Magistrate Ivy Wasike sentenced the coach, identified as Peter Muriithi. The prosecution team proved the case against him.

KoƧ is now preparing to spend the rest of his life in prison.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) successfully presented evidence of defiling of young boys in the Kilifi court.

Murithi was sentenced to life imprisonment in addition to a fine of Sh90 million or an additional 110 years in prison in default.

The sentence came after he was also found guilty of possessing child pornography and videos containing sexually explicit images of an 11-year-old minor.

He was also found guilty of trafficking in persons for the purpose of sexual exploitation, contrary to Article 3(1), as set out in Article 3(5) of the Anti-Trafficking Law No. 8 of 2010.

The prosecution detailed to the court how the defendant, who managed a football team of players under the age of 15, would recruit children and offer financial support to their families to ensure they would remain silent about his actions.

The crimes were committed between 2022 and 2033 in the Mwembe Tayari area in Malindi sub-county. The defendant has 14 days to appeal the sentence.
