They shouted ‘Jewish, IDF’: Israeli football fan said he was attacked in Amsterdam

“They kicked me to the ground for about a minute then walked away, they weren’t afraid of anything.

“I realized that there was blood in my nose, that my nose was broken and that it was very painful.”

Mr Reuben said he could not see properly for about 30 minutes following the attack. But he said he decided not to go to the hospital in Amsterdam because he heard about taxi drivers being involved in violence.

Instead, he said he would fly to Israel on a plane organized by the Israeli government on Friday afternoon and receive medical treatment there.

“This was a specific attack that was organized in advance,” he added.

Pnina, another Maccabi Tel Aviv supporter, also told Dutch media outlet NOS that the violence against Israelis appeared to be pre-planned.

“It seems organized. There were so many people. They jumped on us… We hid in hotels until it was safe to go out,” he said.

Esther Voet, editor-in-chief of a Dutch weekly Jewish newspaper, lives in the city center and says she offered to host some Israeli fans after seeing images of violence.

“I told them this is a Jewish house and you are safe here,” he told Israeli public broadcaster Kann. “People were really scared. I never thought I’d experience this in Amsterdam.”

Dutch police said Israeli fans were subjected to “serious abuse” during “hit-and-run” attacks, many of which were carried out by young men on scooters.
