The Great Indian Kapil Show: How Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal’s messages to his wife turned into ‘flirty’ app notifications

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal recently appeared on ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ and shared some unexpected behind-the-scenes insights into the company’s quirky, flirtatious marketing moves.

Funny ‘flirtatious’ notifications for users of the Zomato app have often gone viral for their cleverness and creativity. A few of these were apparently inspired by Deepinder’s own messages to Narayana Murthy and his wife Gia, who appeared in the show along with his wife Sudha Murthy.

Host Kapil Sharma said, “Their company’s notifications are very flirty. It feels like a girlfriend and boyfriend are talking to each other. Kapil left the audience by showing the audience and Deepinder a few examples of these flirty notifications and Narayana Murthy, in divisions.

‘Passionate people’ or ‘personal relationship’?

Kapil probed further and asked: Zomato The CEO said that these flirtatious messages were actually sent to Gia and accidentally ended up in Zomato’s notifications.

“Were you really writing this message for your customers, or were you writing it for Gia and sent it to us by mistake?” joked Kapil.

Deepinder replied, “I have written for Gia several times and thought I would give them a nice notice. But not really. Let me tell you what happened. Our marketing team is very young. They don’t have any background in marketing. “They are passionate people.”

The Zomato boss added that it all started with the briefing he gave the team on building a ‘personal relationship with the customer’.

“One day I gave them a briefing on how to build a relationship with the customer. Even I didn’t know what it meant. I don’t have any marketing background. I read a book and it said that I should build a relationship with the customer. I told them. They took me seriously.”

Deepinder Goyal His appearance on ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ comes just days after he announced that he will not be returning as a judge on ‘Shark Tank India’. Citing Swiggy’s sponsorship of the upcoming fourth season as an example, he said the brand’s involvement led to his departure from the show panel.
