EMT describes heroic rescue of 14-year-old Apalachee HS shooting victim

Today FOX 5 Atlanta met one of three heroic EMTs (emergency medical technicians) who stepped in to save lives during a tragic school shooting at Apalachee High School.

A medical evacuation team, often referred to as “angels in the sky,” transported a critically injured 14-year-old girl to Piedmont Eastside Hospital after she was shot multiple times. Their rapid response and life-saving care, including emergency blood transfusions, enabled him to recover from his injuries and now be able to share his story.

EMTs, highly trained in trauma care, described the urgency and sensitivity that that day required. “In trauma, time is everything,” one of them explained. “The faster we get to the patient and start procedures, the better our chances of survival.” Hearing the call, the team decided to approach Apalachee High School to shorten the flight time, positioning themselves just minutes away for a quick response when permitted.

Days later, the team visited the young girl, who was resting and responding; This gave them the opportunity to relax and take pride in their work.
