Injured Orillia police officer removed from hospital with stab wounds: OPP commissioner

“Our thoughts are with everyone involved or affected by this incident,” Thomas Carrique said.

The following statement from Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Thomas Carrique was posted on social media Friday:

Yesterday, an Ontario Provincial Police officer was seriously injured in the line of duty in Orillia.

The officer was later released from the hospital and is currently recovering at home. I would like to express my gratitude to the officers and members of the Provincial Communications Center who assisted our officer, as well as the healthcare professionals who provided care.

Our thoughts are with everyone involved or affected by this incident.

Officers put themselves at risk every day to keep their communities safe and often face unforeseen situations. Their dedication to protecting others in the face of such uncertainty is admirable and speaks volumes about their sense of responsibility and duty.

Any attacks on police officers are completely unacceptable because they undermine the safety and security of our communities and the vital role law enforcement plays in protecting us all.

On behalf of the OPP, I would like to sincerely thank the public and our police colleagues for their support during this time. We will not be releasing any further information as the Special Investigations Unit is exercising its authority.
