Sterling Police arrested a man who was called to a fight in a residential neighborhood in northwest Sterling Tuesday morning.

Police arrested Charles Michael Jackson of Sterling and booked him into the Logan County Jail on a charge of First Degree Assault with Intent to Cause Serious Bodily Injury with a Deadly Weapon, according to Police Chief Tyson Kerr.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a physical fight between two men in the 200 block of North 8th Street, Kerr said. Police teams encountered an unidentified person with a stab wound, believed to have been hit with a metal-like object.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the fight began when one of the males, who was searching for the stolen bicycle, encountered the other male, who believed he was trespassing on his property,” Kerr said. “As the argument escalated, the man who was looking for the bike during the conflict was stabbed multiple times. “Both individuals were treated for injuries and later released from Sterling Regional Medical Center.”

Detectives and patrol officers investigated, evidence was collected and interviews were conducted. Based on the investigation, probable cause for Jackson’s arrest was determined. Kerr said the incident is being treated as an isolated incident and there is no ongoing public safety threat associated with the incident.

The Sterling Police Department encourages anyone with information regarding this incident or who witnessed the fight to contact Detective Sergeant Russ Baca at (970) 522-3512 ext. 4227 or submit anonymous tips to Logan County Crime Stoppers at (970) 522-3937.
