Suspect in Riverview Elementary School shooting faces felony charges

Alexander Sinclair, 34, faces charges of aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm and two counts of kidnapping following a count of murder. 31 October incident This briefly placed Painesville Township’s Riverview Elementary School on lockdown.

The aggravated assault and use of a firearm charges are second-degree felonies, according to Painesville Municipal Court records. The kidnapping charges are a first-degree crime.

The court denied Sinclair bail. The case was later transferred from Painesville Municipal Court to Lake County Common Pleas Court.

Sinclair was arrested on October 31 following the events in Riverview. The school was placed on lockdown for less than an hour that morning, and the incident included a gunshot in the school parking lot.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office investigation suggested the incident began as a domestic dispute over school property, the sheriff’s office said in a press release later that day.

The report stated that the vehicle driven by the suspect crashed into a second vehicle on school property. It was stated that the suspect, who was later identified as Sinclair, got out of his vehicle and went towards the passenger side of the other vehicle. A shot was fired outside the school and into the windshield of the second vehicle, but the shot did not hit anyone.

The report stated that the deputy assigned to the school detained Sinclair. Sinclair, the deputy, and the victims in the second vehicle all suffered minor injuries.

Riverside School District announced that morning that no students or staff were injured.

Painesville Township trustees unanimously praised Rep. Alan Ward’s actions at the Nov. 5 meeting. Riverside Schools Facebook post stated He said Riverview brought Ward back to the school on Nov. 6.

“He is doing a great job and the students and staff are so happy to have their hero back,” Riverside’s post said.
