In the video, the woman alleged that Amaria police station in-charge Braj Veer Singh asked her to die when asked about the progress of the case she had filed against one of her neighbours. She accused her neighbor of raping her under the pretext of marriage.

Police officials rushed him to Pilibhit district hospital on Wednesday after learning that he had consumed poison. He was later referred to a higher medical facility in Bareilly, where he died on Thursday.

Superintendent of police (SP) Avinash Pandey said Singh was suspended based on a report submitted to him after an initial investigation by circle officer Deepak Chaturvedi.

The official said that the allegations of negligence in the investigation into the rape allegation made against the police station turned out to be true. He added that another investigation has been carried out against the suspended police station officer, an order has been given to investigate his work in the police station and strict action will be taken against him accordingly. Sub-inspector Parmendra Kumar has been appointed as the new in-charge of Amaria police station, he said.

Another police official said the suspended police station was allegedly 10 lakh from the rape accused, he said, adding that the authenticity of the allegations would be further verified in the departmental investigation.

Circle officer (CO)-Sadar Vidhi Bhushan Mishra had earlier stated that the alleged case was filed around 10 months ago. He said the rape suspect and the woman had been emotionally together for the last seven years. He said the accused refused to marry the woman after returning to India in January, but married another woman on October 20.
