A man has been charged with murder after South Australia Police were called to a stabbing in Adelaide’s CBD on Friday night.

Officers rushed to an accommodation complex in Hindley Street just before 8pm following reports that a man had been stabbed inside the premises.

When police arrived, they found a 23-year-old man with life-threatening injuries at the scene at the west end of the street.

He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later. The man has since been identified as Lewis Parkin.

Mr Parkin’s family released an image of the young man to the media via South Australia Police on Saturday morning.

Police said the suspected attacker left the scene before officers descended on the accommodation complex.

But officers arrested a man near the River Torrens a short time later.

A 42-year-old man from St Marys in Adelaide’s southern suburbs has been charged with murder, police said in a statement on Saturday morning.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, November 11.

“The incident is not considered accidental and the two men know each other,” the police said in a statement.

Eastern District and Major Crime Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the horror.

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to officers are asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
