Dolphins HC Looks Ahead to Pairing with Former Coaching Colleague

The Los Angeles Rams (4-4) look for their fourth straight win as they host the Miami Dolphins (2-6) in Week 10 of Monday Night Football. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is looking forward to the opportunity to face his former coach. man when they shared the sideline together as assistants.

Rams head coach Sean McVay has a great relationship with McDaniel due to their three seasons together as assistants on the Washington Redskins under Mike Shanahan (2011-’13). The duo have risen through the ranks together and will be competing as head coaches for the first time.

McDaniel is in his third season as head coach of the Dolphins with a 22-22 overall record. Although this will be the first time the two will face each other as head coaches of their respective teams, the Dolphins’ head man knows exactly what kind of team McVay will put together on Monday night.

“I think it just comes to mind that Coach McVay and his staff have always been a tough team, I know they do a good job in all three phases,” McDaniel said. “I know he’s going to make sure his group is very detailed, they’re going to be competitive, they’re going to be tough. And they’re going to be complementary in how they play and they’re going to be united in their collective group. I think this is a good team that’s showing some determination and has a winning streak, you’re going to have to beat them for them to lose and they’re not going to give you anything .”

The Dolphins have struggled to find their high-powered, explosive offense, which scored 70 points against the Denver Broncos last season. They are currently the second lowest scoring offense, producing just 15.5 points per game.

The main reason for their struggles was the big-play connection between star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and eight-time Pro Bowl champion Tyreek Hill. Last season, the duo combined for 30 catches of 25 or more yards. They’ve only done it five times so far this year.

McDaniel gave his thoughts on opposing game plans on how two of the most potent offensive players in the NFL have been limited to this point in the season.

“I think it’s important in football, defenses really picked up on these explosive plays and tried to block it by doubling down on it,” McDaniel said. “I think as a result, it forced a lot of the offense to be better, it forced Tua to go with a lot of other available players, and it forced our offensive line to block, it forced our runners to run, and it forced Tyreek to run some blocking. That’s what you do, and in team football you have to understand, “If you’re playing in two teams, I think you have a teammate who represents a lot of reasons for success because of their play, technique and fundamentals have seen growth this year.”

The Rams will look to take advantage of their tough offensive advantage while passing one of the best pass defenses in the league. McDaniel and McVay As smart-kid coaching candidates who spent several years training on the same NFL sideline, they’re sure to pull off some tricks.
