Mifflin Co. man accused of sexually abusing 2 children; perform a sexual act on a dog

Authorities in Mifflin County say a Lewistown man is behind bars following an investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse and bestiality.

Lewistown police say 21-year-old Shaun Mellott allegedly assaulted two children in recent weeks and also performed sexual acts on the family pet.

Police said officers were dispatched to Geisinger Lewistown Hospital earlier this week to assist with the rape investigation.

Investigators said police learned in October that Mellott assaulted a teenage girl multiple times at a home in Lewistown Township.

Police said Mellott later admitted to the allegations of abuse and claimed that a relative named Andrew Lawler witnessed one of the attacks.

Police said Lawler was pleasuring himself during the alleged assault, according to Mellott.

Although Mellott resisted, he was taken into custody and an arrest warrant was issued for Lawler, authorities said.

After further investigation, police said a second victim came forward who claimed Mellott sexually assaulted her.

Police reported Mellott “pinned the child to the ground” and “rubbed his genitals against the child’s face.”

Investigators also said authorities were also made aware of an incident of bestiality in which Mellott allegedly performed a sexual act on his family’s dog.

Police said multiple family members reportedly witnessed the alleged incident.

Authorities say Mellott faces several charges, including rape, statutory sexual assault, involuntary sexual intercourse and sexual intercourse with an animal.

Police also said Lawler turned himself in and was charged with solicitation of minors and corruption.
