St. Louis man sentenced to five more years in prison for three sex-related crimes in Salem area

38-year-old St. A St. Louis man was sentenced to an additional five years in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of child pornography.

Courtney Buffkins is currently serving a 39-year prison sentence for multiple charges involving another teenage girl from Salem. Buffkins was first arrested when he was found with the first girl in a motel room in Salem. The investigation revealed at least four previous encounters between the two.

Salem Police said they found child pornography involving the second girl while examining Buffkins’ phone for evidence in the first case.

Marion County State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth said the second victim did not want to attend a hearing scheduled for next week.

Buffkins was sentenced to five years in prison for each of the three child pornography charges, with all sentences to be served concurrently. The five-year sentence will be served consecutively for the child pornography offense involving the first victim. The trial will run concurrently with four previous pleas of aggravated sexual abuse against the first victim. Three other child pornography charges were also dropped as part of Friday’s plea agreement, which cleared Buffkins of the last of 16 charges he originally faced.

When Buffkins is released from prison, he will have to complete a mandatory one-year supervised release. The $1,000 fine on each count was declared uncollectible.

Buffkins is currently at Mt. He is appealing his 39-year sentence in the Court of Appeals in Vernon.
