Rajinikanth-Amitabh Bachchan’s Andhaa Kaanoon started new trend – North-South unity

A.mitabh Bachchan and Rajnikanth reunited in October this year to create magic in TJ Gnanavel’s action thriller Vettaiyan. It’s a tried and tested pairing that has given us two Bollywood hits in the past. Andhaa Kaanoon In 1983 and after Buzzing In 1991.

Andhaa Kaanoon It was Rajinikanth’s Bollywood debut. This signaled the beginning of a new pan-India trend, meaning the coming together of superstars, famous actors, directors and producers from South and North India. In a way, this was Telugu director T Rama Rao’s ‘pan-India’ film, featuring Hema Malini, Prem Chopra, Pran, Danny Denzongpa and Amrish Puri.

On sound opening Vettaiyan in Chennai, Rajinikanth credited Bachchan for his Bollywood debut. The role of Vijay Singh, who is on a quest to avenge the murder of his parents, was meant for Mithun Chakraborty. It was Bachchan who suggested Rajinikanth for the role.

Andhaa KaanoonRemake of the 1981 Tamil film Sattam Oru IruttaraI had all the ingredients of a blockbuster: two megastars, a revenge saga and injustice.

That year, the movie set cash registers are ringing. It was made on a budget of Rs 2.30 million and attracted huge attention Rs 7.50 crore to be one of the best at the box office The five highest-grossing movies1983.

A talisman for the box office

Interestingly, Rajinikanth’s character in the film is named Vijay, a name closely related to Amitabh Bachchan. He acted in at least 20 films in which he played the role of Vijay. Zanjeer (1973), DewA.ar (1975), To wear (1978), Kaala Patthar (1979) and Shaan (1980). It was almost like a talisman for box office success.

Inside Andhaa Kaanoon, Bachchan plays Jan Nissar Khan, a disgraced forest officer. Vijay and Jan meet by chance and bond over their mutual distrust and hatred of the country’s legal system. Jan has also been betrayed by the law and seeks revenge.

Vijay and Durga (Hema Malini) are siblings who witnessed the murder of their father and the rape and murder of their sister by three notorious criminals. A corrupt guard said the criminals were in prison cells when the crime was committed, but the three men escaped without punishment.

I tick most of the boxes

The film’s title song is sung repeatedly by Jan as the story explores how the legal system betrayed him and Vijay. One version plays out at the very end of the film, where both men exact their revenge.

One of the songs memorize memorizeThere was a happy and sad version. The second version sung by Rajeshwari Sachdev is very impressive. Jan’s daughter Neelo sings this song to console her father, who is imprisoned after being falsely arrested on murder charges. Shortly after the song, Jan’s wife Zakhiya (Madhavi) sends a letter explaining that Jan killed herself and her daughter because she could not bear the trauma of being raped.

song Mary BahenaThe song sung by Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar establishes the relationship of Vijay and Durga despite being on opposite sides of the law. On Rakshabandhan, Durga decides to let go of her problems regarding Vijay’s quest to kill his parents’ murderers and shares a few happy moments with him.

However, the movie has some problems of its own. The film uses rape as a stray trope to highlight the corruption and ineffectiveness of the judicial system. Rajnikanth’s skin tone has also lightened significantly, as if to suit the Indian belt aesthetic of lighter-skinned actors. The violence is also graphic.

Despite its flaws, it managed to meet most criteria and proved to be a success that united North and South India.
