Man arrested on drug charges after traffic stop in Bertie County

BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A man was taken into custody after illegal drugs were found during a traffic stop in Aulander on Friday, deputies said.

According to the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, at 9:19 p.m., deputies stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic violation.

It was stated that during the search conducted after the interview with the driver, 1.7 grams of methamphetamine and 8 thousand heroin were seized inside.

Deputies say 50-year-old Thomas Byrd of Virginia has been charged with felonies including possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Harrell was processed and incarcerated at the Bertie/Martin County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond.
