There were 443 traffic accidents in Bangladesh in October this year; 469 people lost their lives and 837 people were injured.

It was stated that 74 of the dead were women and 66 children.

A total of 208 motorcycle-related crashes led to 196 deaths; this accounted for 41.79% of the total deaths and the motorcycle accident rate was 46.95%.

Additionally, 102 pedestrians (21.74%) and 67 vehicle drivers or assistants (14.28%) lost their lives.

During the same period, four maritime accidents resulted in seven deaths and three injuries, while 21 railway accidents resulted in 18 deaths and six injuries.

The Road Safety Foundation compiled this report based on data from nine national daily newspapers, seven online news portals, various electronic media and internal records.

Fatalities by vehicle type

Distribution of deaths by vehicle: 196 deaths (41.79%) were caused by motorcycle drivers or passengers, 31 deaths (6.60%) were caused by bus passengers, and 20 deaths (4.26%) were caused by truck, covered van, pickup, tram or truck passengers. reveals. .

While 12 (2.55%) of the deaths occurred among passengers of private vehicles, minibuses and ambulances, 94 (20.04%) occurred among passengers in three-wheeled vehicles (autorickshaw, CNG powered, tambourine).

Locally produced vehicles (such as Nosimon and Korimon) were involved in 10 deaths (2.13%); Cyclists and rickshaw passengers caused 4 deaths (0.85%).

Accident location by road type

Road Safety Foundation analysis shows that 173 (39.05%) of the incidents occurred on national highways, 162 (36.56%) on regional roads, 64 (14.44%) on rural roads and 38 (8%) on national highways. .57) shows that it occurs in urban areas. accidents at other unspecified locations (1.35%).

Types of accidents

112 (25.28%) of the incidents were head-on collisions, 171 (38.60%) were loss of control, 104 (23.47%) were pedestrian collisions, 42 (9.48%) were rear-end collisions and 14 (3.16%)) caused by other factors.

Among the vehicles involved in 25.48% of the accidents, trucks, closed vans, pickups, tractors, trams, trucks and drum trucks were involved.

Micro buses, private cars, ambulances and jeeps constituted 4.39 percent, passenger buses 14.48 percent, motorcycles 28.07 percent and three-wheeled vehicles (such as autorickshaws) 17.59 percent. Accident statistics by departments

Department statistics reveal that Dhaka Division recorded 29.57% of accidents and 30.70% of deaths. While Rajshahi Division accounted for 15.34% of accidents and 13.85% of deaths, Chattogram Division saw 17.83% of accidents and 17.27% of deaths. Khulna Division had 9% of accidents and 8.10% of fatalities, while Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions had more cases ranging from 4.06% to 10.83% for accidents and 5.33% to 11.08% for fatalities. The highest number of accidents occurred in Dhaka District with 131 incidents resulting in 144 deaths. The fewest accidents occurred in Sylhet Division with 22 incidents and 24 deaths.

Among individual districts, Chattogram saw the highest figures with 34 accidents and 39 deaths; Magura, Jhalokathi, Barguna and Panchagarh reported accidents without any fatalities.

In the capital Dhaka, 29 traffic accidents resulted in 21 deaths and 34 injuries.

Occupational analysis of the deceased

According to published media data, the dead include three police officers, two Ansar members, nine teachers from various educational institutions and four journalists.
