Alan Titchmarsh’s confession about his health condition as he shares his fear that he will ‘die young’ | Celebrity News | Showbiz and TV

Alan Titchmarsh fears he may not live to see his old age. The 75-year-old gardening legend has made a heartbreaking admission about his health, saying he thought he “might die relatively young”.

The former Army star previously shared that he “takes tablets every day” to help maintain his health. However, he still worries about losing his father, who died when he was 62.

Alan shared that many men in his family suffered the same fate due to heart disease. In September 2014 the TV gardener told Yours magazine: “I’m on statins.

“I wish I wasn’t like that. I don’t like the idea of taking pills every day, but I’m following my doctor’s advice. He thinks it’s a good idea.”

He explained his feelings: “The thing is, the men in my family tended to die of heart disease at a relatively young age. My father, for example, died suddenly of a heart attack in 1986 when he was just 10 years old and 62.”

Another time he said: “Living longer than my father made me think about things. The thing is, I decided to calm down a bit and pick up the pace.”

Alan also described the pain he experienced from gardening work. He has previously said he was approached by the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing program several times, but had to turn it down due to “bad knees”.

He said his wife Alison warned him against it, explaining: “Alison was a dance teacher and she believed my knees wouldn’t stay the same.”

The gardener had also previously told Yours: “Stabbing pains in his back from carrying paving slabs and large poles.”

But Alan, who has more than 40 years of experience on TV, said he would not be retiring anytime soon. He told greatbritishlife.co.uk in 2018: “I’ve been advised to go lighter but I really don’t want to retire.

“I think we all need a purpose in life, a reason to get up in the morning. So at least I’ll always be a gardener, that’s me and I couldn’t do without it.”

The Love Your Weekend host added: “I (also) love the contrasting fun of my TV work, which is never boring, so I really wouldn’t want to give it all up and retire.”
