Nvidia’s Jensen Huang Explained Why He Doesn’t Wear a Watch: “I Don’t Want…”

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has a different approach to time and explained why he prefers not to wear a watch. Speaking at a tech event, Mr. Huang, whose company Nvidia has seen its valuation soar in recent years, emphasized the value of living in the now.

“Very few people know this, but I don’t wear a watch. The reason I don’t wear it is because now is the most important time. You may be surprised, but I’m not very ambitious. Do more; I want to do better at what I’m doing now; I don’t strive to do more; those who know me “We don’t have a big plan. Our definition of a long-term plan is simply: What are we doing today?”

An Instagram account called @entrepreneursonig shared a video of Huang discussing his philosophy at the event with the caption: “Doing more is easy; doing less is hard.” NVIDIA CEO and co-founder Jensen Huang shares how he and his team are focusing on the present and the company “After all, it shapes your future.”

Huang shared a story from a conversation he had with a Japanese gardener in 2023 that shaped his perspective on the subject. The billionaire described meeting a gardener who “lovingly tended a temple in Kyoto” and who managed to maintain the garden’s mossy perfection despite the heat, the size of the garden, and his small tools. When asked how he did it, the gardener replied: “I have plenty of time.”

Huang reflected: “This is the best career advice I can give: Now is the most important time; just focus on the present. I rarely pursue anything… I focus now. I enjoy my job.”
