Jhb residents urged to monitor weather forecast while using rivers for rituals – SABC News

The City of Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) is urging residents to monitor the weather forecast before embarking on rituals and ceremonies in streams.

EMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo says drownings tend to increase in the city as summer approaches.

This is because children swim unsupervised and residents perform cleansing rituals and ceremonies in the rivers.

“During the summer months, the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services runs a water safety campaign. This campaign aims to educate Johannesburg residents about water safety. “EMS continues to urge Johannesburg residents to check the weather forecast before embarking on any ceremony.”
