UP court sentences German citizen to 14 months in prison for fraud – ThePrint – PTIFeed

Sonbhadra (UP), Nov 11 (PTI) A local court on Monday sentenced a German national to 14 months’ imprisonment and fined him Rs 500 for committing fraud by changing the validity date of his expired visa.

Senior Public Prosecutor Satish Verma said Chief Justice (CJM) Alok Yadav gave the sentence to Berlin-based Holger Erik Misch.

During an investigation by the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) in 2017, Sub-Inspector Sitaram said he discovered Misch’s visa had expired but made changes to the document to extend its validity.

After investigation, the police booked him under Sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 14A of the Foreigners Act. He filed a criminal complaint against Misch in accordance with the article.

After hearing both sides, the court found Misch guilty and sentenced him to an additional seven days of imprisonment in case the fine was not paid.
