Spirit Airlines Flight 951 was shot down in gang-related violence while landing in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, from Fourt Lauderdale, authorities said

A Spirit Airlines flight from Fort Lauderdale was shot while trying to land in Haiti, authorities said Monday.

Flight 951 was gunned down as it tried to land at Port-au-Prince airport, Haiti’s National Civil Aviation Office told ABC News.

The flight was diverted and landed safely in Santiago, Dominican Republic.

The airline said a flight it attended was checked by medical teams for minor injuries.

No other passengers reported any injuries.

Spirit Airlines said the plane was taken out of service.

All of the airline’s services at Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien (CAP) have been suspended.

The US Embassy in Port-au-Prince said “the security situation in Haiti remains unpredictable and dangerous.”

The US Embassy added the following statement:

“The U.S. government cannot guarantee your safety when traveling to airports, borders, or during any subsequent travel. You should consider your personal safety situation before traveling anywhere in Haiti. Only attempt to leave or travel within Haiti if you believe it is safe for you to do so.” .to do this.”

American Airlines and JetBlue announced that they are suspending flights to Haiti on Thursday, November 14.
