A Kansas City man who died after being fatally mauled by a pack of dogs gave a chilling account of how the animals that attacked his family for 23 minutes “tried to drag me away like I was their dinner.”

“They ripped off his cheek, his jaw and his heel. I can’t believe some dogs could do that to a human,” said Angela Culbertson, the victim’s sister. KSHB.

Culbertson reportedly did not recognize the dogs that attacked him and told his family after the attack, “I was reaching out for help, but no one was helping me.”

A woman living in the neighborhood told the station that she tried to fight the dogs with a golf club, but failed when the dogs started attacking her. He then ran to call 911 for help.

According to KSHB, a second victim was also hospitalized in serious condition; It is unclear whether this is the woman who tried to intervene.

When the police arrived at the scene, they tried to scare the herd using their sirens and lights.

Another local resident reportedly told the press that the dogs were trained to fight, and Culbertson’s family called for the owners to be punished.

“So those who own dogs need to be held accountable for this. This is murder and they taught these dogs to do this and this is their dog. So it’s their responsibility,” Angela Culbertson added.
