Woman admitted to entering the house, taking a shower, eating and wearing the owner’s clothes after the car accident

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV)—On Sunday morning, a Nashville homeowner was surprised to discover someone had broken into her home, eaten her food, and even gone through her drawers.

According to an arrest affidavit from the Metro Nashville Police Department, officers were called to investigate a possible burglary at 1280 Old Hickory Boulevard. I talked to the landlord on Sunday.

The affidavit said the woman noticed someone opening the door to her car parked in the garage, and then when she went inside, she saw several items of food had been removed from her refrigerator and pantry and left on the counter.

Officers searched his home and found no one, but while searching the property they found the second home was locked, according to the report. The woman told officers the house was vacant and needed to be unlocked, the affidavit states.

Once inside, officers found 41-year-old Laquinta Thomas asleep on a couch and took her into custody.

According to the affidavit, Thomas said he had been involved in a car crash the night before and fled before officers arrived on the scene. Thomas, who assumed no one lived in the house because the door was unlocked, told officers he showered, ate from the main house, and wore clothes from the house.

Officers reported finding a bag near the door containing the homeowner’s belongings, including a towel. The woman told police that she was aware of a car accident that occurred in front of her home in the early hours of the morning.

Thomas was arrested Sunday afternoon and charged with felony theft.
