SUV Catches Fire While Driving on Avinashi Road |

Coimbatore: A moving sports utility vehicle (SUV) suddenly caught fire on Avinashi Road near Thennampalayam on Monday night. The driver and his passenger managed to escape without injury.
Police said Thulasimani from Karanampettai in Tirupur district, who was into the scrap business, came to the city on a business trip and returned home in an SUV. While the vehicle was driven by Naveen, Thulasimani was using a shotgun.
As they approached Thennampalayam, Naveen noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment and moved towards the service road. A fire suddenly broke out and they both quickly managed to get out of the SUV.
The fire brigade and rescue teams who arrived at the scene were notified. Fire crews extinguished the fire after 20 minutes of work. However, at that time the vehicle became completely unusable.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
