Amari Clemons helps lead the Marianna offense with big numbers this season

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -The Marianna football team is 10-0 and preparing to host Florida High in a first-round playoff game. And the biggest reason for it all is Clemson junior Amari, who plays on both sides of the ball. His numbers from scrimmage are an impressive 1,880 yards. 247 reception areas. 37 goals in total. These are some of the statistics that junior running back Amari Clemons put up during his junior season. Marianna’s star-studded player is well-known around the area for his explosive offense, and he has a few groups to thank for that.

“The offensive line and the team always coming together, wanting to win and wanting to do their job.” says Clemson. “So when they do their job, I can do my job, so everyone comes together and we can win. Even though what I’ve gone through shines on someone else, it’s not all about me, so when I’m done, the young guys can come forward and step up.” Head coach Jack Glover echoed Amari’s comments, adding that he is one of the most dedicated players on the football club, especially considering the type of player he is.

“He’s the first one to cheer on his teammates.” Coach says. “When we have a running clock or he’s the first person we can say, ‘Coach, do you need me to come out’ or ‘do you want me to come out?’ Because he knows what we’re doing, he understands what we’re doing. You know most guys want to keep running because they’re constantly thinking about those stats.” , and he never talks about statistics.” After speaking with Amari, it’s clear that after his time at Marianna he wants to be remembered for more than just football, for making an impact beyond the field. “Not just because I’m a football player, but like I’m a kid inspiring others to do the right thing and preach the gospel and use my platform and do those things.” “So just focus on who you are and who you believe in. He talks to me about God, he’s a follower, I’m a follower, and I just tell him to keep following God, let him lead you.” Amari has come a long way in just three seasons, and it’s safe to say she’s not done yet. “I’m going from 1-9 to 6-4 starting my freshman year, so it’s a journey, I mean it’s a journey where we all come together and trust each other, I can’t ask for more, it’s like a brotherhood.

The Bulldogs will host FSUHS on Friday at 7pm, we will watch the highlights of this game on Friday in Friday Night Overtime.
