The exchange was recorded by BT Sport’s pitchside cameras and saw Robertson, along with his assistants Marc Perry and Nicholas Hopton, hand Coote away and the players were seen leaving the pitch.

‘Wait until you come in and see this and think, ‘How is this not a penalty?’ you will say.

Klopp also objected to Robertson, adding: ‘You didn’t see anything. You didn’t see anything during the match other than punishing him at the last minute.

‘Fuck me. What’s the point of you being in the middle? What’s the point of having you? Ha? Honestly, fuck me.’

Coote refereed Liverpool defeated Aston Villa 2-0 on Saturday.
