Man who distributed child porn was sentenced to 3 years in prison

Ronnie Farrugia, 64, of Bormla, was sentenced to three years in prison after admitting possessing child pornography and distributing it to third parties in late October 2024.

The inspector recalled how police investigated Farrugia following three reports sent to the Cyber ​​Crime Unit by the US-based NCMEC (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children).

Farrugia was initially released after the court informed the prosecution and defense attorney that it could not sentence the defendant on the day he appeared in court.

The man admitted the charges on November 12, 2024 He was brought to court two weeks agoand thus the Court presided over by Justice Monica Vella sentenced the man to three years imprisonment for possession and distribution of child pornographic material.

At the request of the prosecution, the Court also ordered that Farrugia be placed on the sex offenders’ registry.
