Rape suspect ‘caught on CCTV’ in Dundee car park

Police investigating the rape of a 16-year-old schoolboy in Dundee believe the suspect was captured on CCTV.

Officers said the girl was outside with a friend when the male suspect approached the couple.

The man attacked the girl in a small car park in Dundee’s Cowgate area after dumping his friend.

Detectives said the incident occurred between 01:00 and 01:30 on Sunday.

The investigating officer said a grainy image of the man believed to be responsible was captured on CCTV.

Det Insp Graeme Wishart said: “This is the very early stages of the investigation, but the real positive is the first CCTV trawls.

“Of course we see the person responsible, but we need to develop that to identify him.”

The detective said the girl was with a friend before the attack.

He said: “Two friends were socializing and arranging their way home.

“The male spoke to both of them and the friend then left the area.

“He didn’t know her before this.”

Detective Wishart said the girl walked downtown after the attack and was seen distressed by a member of the public, who alerted police officers.

The detective said a special team was conducting CCTV and door-to-door investigations.

It was stated that the suspect was in his 20s, white-skinned, slim-built, of medium height, with a short beard.

He was wearing a beige or khaki jacket, a black T-shirt, dark pants and light brown boots.
