Horrifying moment Boeing jet crashed into antenna during takeoff and was forced to make an emergency landing

This is the terrifying moment a cargo plane crashed into an airport antenna as it took off, forcing it to make an emergency landing.

Video footage showed a Boeing 727-200 aircraft operated by cargo airline Aerosucre crashing into the Instrument Landing System (ILS) at El Dorado International Airport in the Colombian capital Bogota.

The ILS, which is used to assist pilots in landings and takeoffs at night and in bad weather conditions, was seen to have disintegrated after the plane crashed.

The Boeing was heading from Colombia to Valencia, Spain.

Despite the impact, the pilot managed to gain altitude and remain in flight for more than an hour.

The pilot circled the Tocancipá, Zipaquirá and Sesquilé regions to burn fuel and reduce weight so the cargo plane could return to El Dorado.

No additional damage or injuries were reported among the crew.

Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority described the incident as ‘serious’ and immediately launched an investigation.

A spokesman said: ‘The aircraft completed take-off, consumed fuel in mid-air and landed on the south runway of the same airport at 17.42 without further incident.

‘The Accident Investigation Technical Directorate is investigating all factors related to this serious incident, including the airline’s planning, with the aim of identifying the causes and formulating recommendations to help prevent future accidents.’

A technical team also assessed the damage to the ILS and its impact on airport operations.

To make matters worse, the Civil Aviation Authority announced that inclement weather conditions were causing delays to many flights across the country at 5.37pm.

Airlines such as Avianca, Turkish Airlines and Iberia had to cancel multiple flights due to weather conditions and damage to the ILS.
