Grantham sex offender jailed longer for another attack

A convicted sex offender in Grantham has been sentenced to a further 16 months in prison.

Stephen Cherry is currently serving a 10-and-a-half year prison sentence after being found guilty of sexual offenses against a teenage girl earlier this year.

The 50-year-old man, formerly of Shanklin Drive, Grantham, admitted two further charges of sexual assault against a second adult victim when he appeared at Lincoln Crown Court in October.

Judge James House KC told Cherry he would have to serve the 16-month sentence on top of the time he was already serving.

A restraining order was also issued preventing Cherry from contacting the victim or going to her address.

Earlier this year, Cherry was convicted of 11 felonies, including sexual assault on a child under 13, sexual activity with a child and one count of oral rape.

The victim came forward in 2022 after learning about sexual abuse by watching a television program and receiving sexual education at school.

He complained that Cherry “made him do things” and was interrogated by specially trained police officers.

Cherry will also face a 12-month extended license period when he is released from prison after Judge House ruled he was a dangerous offender.
