A woman shares her shock and disappointment after her boyfriend attempted to make a “fake proposal” she thought was real during a trip to Paris.

In an anonymous post shared redditThe 28-year-old woman writes that she and her 30-year-old boyfriend recently went to Paris for their second wedding anniversary.

“It was a fantastic, surprising and romantic holiday, to the point where my partner suggested we ask a stranger to take a photo of us in front of the Eiffel Tower with a ‘fake proposal,'” she writes. “When he asked that, my heart started beating so fast I thought he said ‘fake offer’ as a ruse for a real offer, which is something we haven’t talked about yet.”

The woman asks her boyfriend, “What do you mean?” She adds that he told her that “proposal photos here are really popular and we should ‘take the opportunity’ while we can.”

“I told her I wasn’t really interested in a fake proposal photo and thought it was weird that she suggested it. We moved on pretty quickly and went to dinner.”

Later that evening, the woman brought it up again and asked bluntly: “Were you really planning to propose to me and I ruined it?”

But he said no, adding that he “didn’t think we were ready for that step.”

While the woman writes that she accepts that the couple is not ready to get engaged, she is not interested in a fake proposal.

“He said he always thought the proposal photo in front of the Eiffel Tower was really romantic and when he proposed he was worried it wouldn’t be as romantic as Paris, so he wanted to take the photo while we had the chance.” writes.

She continues: “I apologized but told her I was only interested in actual proposal photos and would love them whenever/wherever that happened. She’s been pretty upset since that conversation and I really feel like I ruined things for her.”

Now the woman is worried that she was wrong in not agreeing to take the fake proposal photo.

But commenters say her boyfriend is at fault in this situation.

One commenter wrote: “This is so weird. Also he’s tone deaf. Like what was he planning to do with the photos?”

“Fake proposals are not romantic,” the commenter added. “Even in front of the Eiffel Tower.”

Another added: “A real proposal, even if it takes place on your own unmade bed (which may or may not be based on my actual experience), is much more romantic than a fake proposal in front of the Eiffel Tower. Thank you so much for caring about your partner’s feelings about this, but this “The request was a little strange.”
