Ecuadorian midfielder Marco Angulo dies more than a month after car crash in Quito | World News

Ecuador and FC Cincinnati player Marco Angulo died at the age of 22 after a car accident last month.

The Ecuadorian Football Federation said that Angulo died after suffering head and chest injuries in a traffic accident in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, on October 7.

There was a passenger in the car that crashed into a metal barrier in the south of the city.

Driver and Independiente Juniors player Roberto Cabezas was killed.

According to El Universo newspaper, Angulo was placed in an artificial coma but died last night due to his injuries.

Angulo played for Ecuadorian league champion LDU Quito on loan from Major League Soccer side FC Cincinnati.

The Ecuadorian Football Federation said Angulo “defended the colors of our country at every opportunity he had, with his talent and dedication.”

“Marco was not only an outstanding player, but also a great teammate. He left a deep pain in our hearts.”

Defensive midfielder Angulo played for the Ecuador Under-17 and Under-20 teams before making his debut in a friendly against Iraq in November 2022.

He played another friendly match against Australia in March last year.
