At least eight teenagers were injured in an explosion at a drinking party and bonfire on Kodiak Island early Sunday morning. Five of those children were transported to Anchorage with moderate injuries, according to one report. release From the Alaska State Troopers. The injuries are not life-threatening.

“Thankfully, no one has died from this tragic incident at this time. We hope parents use this as an example as a way to re-engage with their students,” Police Spokesman Austin McDaniel said.

Dozens of young people attended the party Saturday night at White Sands Beach, about a 15-minute drive north of Kodiak.

The explosion occurred after a partygoer allegedly placed a 55-gallon fuel drum in the fire pit. The Bayside Fire Department was on the scene around 1 a.m. Sunday. Troopers ask anyone with additional information to contact the Kodiak Trooper Post.

“Anyone who was there or has firsthand knowledge of what happened is definitely asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers and Kodiak so we can talk to them and help us learn more about what happened leading up to the placement of the juvenile here at the fuel drum fire,” McDaniel said.

Soldiers said that the person who put the drum on the fire was arrested and handed over to the Juvenile Justice Department.
