Riverhead Police investigate theft at Star Confectionery

Riverhead Police are seeking information regarding a break-in at Star Confectionery on Riverhead’s East Main Street between noon Monday and early Tuesday morning, according to a police press release.

Police responded to a phone call from the owner of Star Confectionery just before 8 a.m. this morning, reporting an attempt to break into the business.

Officers found that someone had actually followed through on the promises. Police said that although nothing initially appeared to have been removed, subsequent inspection by the owner determined that someone had removed “various U.S. currencies” from the building.

The Riverhead detective division investigated and determined the break-in occurred sometime between 11 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the report.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. They ask anyone with information to contact the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.
