Beaumont home closed by Alberta Sheriffs

Alberta Sheriffs have closed down a home in Beaumont that they say has been the subject of numerous police complaints this year.

Activity at the home at 4805-44 Avenue has been the subject of five complaints since March 8, and there have been 19 “incidents” at the property between February and August, sheriffs said.

Five other incidents were also linked to the property, and local RCMP said the home “has long been associated with drug and criminal activity.”

Officers from the Safer Communities and Neighborhoods (SCAN) unit closed the property on Tuesday following a court order against the property owner.

Beaumont RCMP Commander said the calls to police “have had a troubling impact on the community.” David Marentette.

“With today’s closure, the SCAN unit and RCMP are easing the long-standing nuisance and threat to safety in the neighborhood regarding this property,” added SCAN Insp. Karleen Schenkey.

The existing lease or rental agreement was terminated and everyone had to leave the house.

The property will be closed and secured until February 10, while SCAN officers will monitor the property while conducting an inspection.
