Scotland lock Scott Cummings has been suspended for a week for a red card. Sunday’s defeat to South Africa.

The 27-year-old Glasgow Warriors forward will start next autumn’s Test match at home to Romania on Saturday.

Cummings was sent to the sin bin for performing a “crocodile roll” on Franco Mostert’s lower limb just 10 minutes into the 32-15 defeat at Murrayfield.

The initial yellow card being converted into a red meant that Cummings was sidelined for 20 minutes, according to a new decision announced recently.

Tuesday’s independent disciplinary committee ruled the red card was justified for foul play but “decided that, although careless, the two-week low-interval entry point was appropriate with the full 50% mitigation applied”.

Cummings benefited from “an exemplary disciplinary record, good conduct and demonstrated remorse”.

Scotland would be without three other Glaswegian forwards (Jack Dempsey, Max Williamson and Gregor Brown) who were injured against Portugal.

Warriors hooker Johnny Matthews and Scarlets prop Alex Hepburn were called up as substitutes.
