“Senior officers are involved in this. The government is supporting them. They are threatening me. I am giving you the names. They are Vineet Goel and DC Special… They conspired to implicate me in this,” he added.

The victim’s father was also present in the court as a witness, PTI news agency said in a report citing police sources.

This case attracted attention due to its seriousness, and the court’s decision represents an important step in the legal proceedings against the defendant.

When the charges were brought against Roy on November 4, he claimed his innocence.

He was booked under Article 64 (rape), Article 66 (punishment for causing death or causing a persistent vegetative state) and Article 103 (punishment for murder) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.

He was arrested by Kolkata Police on August 10, a day after the 31-year-old doctor’s body was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Hospital.

Later, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the investigation into the case on the directions of the Calcutta High Court.

The disgusting incident that took place on August 9 sparked outrage across the country, leading to numerous protests and demonstrations.
