Assault and robbery victim targeted again near home in Jamacha

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A Jamacha man who was brutally attacked in an attempted robbery two years ago has once again become the victim of a crime.

Every time Jerry Gibson watches the surveillance video outside his Jamacha home, he takes it over and over again.

“I’m surprised someone could do this in broad daylight,” Gibson said. “He doesn’t even bother to look around, so focused on what he’s up to.”

A few weeks ago, a video showed a man walking up to the trailer hitch of his SUV parked on Lisbon Avenue, casually undoing the straps and stealing a generator worth more than $1,200. It was a demoralizing moment for Gibson, a handyman who used it for tree pruning and other tasks.

“Absolutely my heart sank. I could feel it in my stomach. That shook me,” Gibson said.

It took place more than two years after an attempted robbery that turned gruesome.

“I was sliced from ear to ear, from the back of my head,” Gibson said.

There are still terrible reminders on Gibson’s head and neck.

“I have a scar on my neck, above my collarbone,” Gibson said.

In September 2022, two men attacked Gibson and stabbed him twice while he was organizing tools near his home.

“Doctors said I might have been half an inch (dead) either way,” Gibson said.

Earlier this year, the two suspects had two criminal charges, including a 9-year prison sentence for the man who stabbed him.

It took Gibson a year to recover physically. He was diagnosed with depression.

“There’s a lot of mental and emotional trauma that we’re still trying to deal with. “I guess it’s a long road,” Gibson said. “I just can’t seem to get ahead.”

Gibson filed a police report in hopes of tracking down the thief.

“I’m not going to let this get me down… I want justice to be served,” Gibson said.
