Judge sentences man who killed Alamogordo police officer

ALAMOGORDO, NM – A judge sentenced the man to life in prison for shooting and killing an Alamogordo police officer last year.

A judge sentenced Dominic De La O to life in prison without parole for the murder of police officer Anthony Ferguson during a July 2023 traffic stop. De La O will serve the sentences consecutively, following two previous cases for which he is currently serving.

The verdict was handed down Tuesday, just four days after a jury found De La O guilty of first-degree murder. Ferguson’s family and colleagues testified during the sentencing. The court also heard a jailhouse interview in which De La O allegedly bragged about the shooting.

The judge sentenced him to six and a half years in prison for multiple related charges, including tampering with evidence, aggravated flight from a law enforcement officer and trespassing.
