Addyston Village Council votes to disband police department

ADDYSTON, Ohio (WXIX) – The Addyston Village Council has voted to disband the police department. Ineos announces it will close its local plant in 2025.

On November 12, after several meetings on the issue, the council voted four to three to disband the Addyston Police Department.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office will take over on Nov. 15, according to Addyston Mayor Lisa Mear.

One council member argued that the contract with the sheriff’s department would save the village money in the first year.

Another member said despite the council’s efforts, maintenance of the police department was not working.

Currently, only two police officers are on duty in the village; Mear explained that he was the chief of police and a part-time officer.

Addyston Police Chief Jacob Tenbrink said he expected this change after Ineos announced it would close the plant. Chemical spill in Hamilton County In September.
