His family left the UK to travel and won’t be returning for 5 reasons | Travel News | Trip

A brave couple sold all their belongings to travel the world, claiming Britain was no longer a safe place to raise children.

Known as @theunconventionalfam on TikTok, the duo first moved to Australia and then headed to Asia, believing there was more to life than what the UK had to offer. In an explanatory statement, they listed five key reasons for their departure from British shores; Some of these may come as surprises.

The first point of discussion was the alarming crime trend in the UK, with reports of children as young as 12 years old being involved in drug-related activities. The increase in stabbing crimes particularly “scares” the couple and prompts them to take action.

The duo also noted a perceived decline in social values, observing a lack of respect for authority figures, including teachers and police officers, among some young people.

While they spoke of the NHS facing “incredible stress” post-Covid-19 and highlighted difficulties in securing medical appointments as a contributing reason for their exodus, healthcare woes were another factor influencing their decision.

In a candid video statement, the couple said: “I think the third point for us is the weather. There’s not a lot of sunshine for seven, eight months of the year. It’s cold, it’s awful, it’s rainy.”

“When you come back from work, you have to stay inside. It’s pretty depressing. It’s hard to live a healthier lifestyle. A lot of people tell me, ‘I want to go there because I want to see snow.’

“We don’t see a lot of snow in the UK, maybe a few days a year. If so, sometimes.

“Number four cost of living. Everyone knows that England is very expensive. The average house price in the UK is currently £356,000, or around 2 million Ringgit. The average rent is around £1,200 per month.”

They also highlighted the high cost of oil and pointed out that the average food bill in the UK is around £800 a month. They added that eating out would also not be suitable for a family of four.

Speaking of food, they argued that food quality is superior in Asia and that most things are now “mass produced” in the UK. Coming to the last point, they discussed general UK culture.

They expressed concern about the growing popularity of plastic surgery and the emphasis on body image regarding the upbringing of young girls. They believe that traveling gives their children a broader perspective on life.

Since the video was published, it has been watched thousands of times and received comments in a short time. Many praised the decision to move.

One person said: “I lived in the UK for 19 years before moving back to Malaysia. I know what you mean about the UK. We homeschooled our daughter because of the problems. Looking back we definitely did the right thing.”

Another commented: “You are a good parent for making the big decision to move.” Meanwhile a third chimed in: “But you won’t find Greggs hot dogs, haggis and black pudding here. Just kidding. Welcome to Malaysia.”
