Pakistan – At least 26 people have been confirmed dead following a horrific crash involving a bus carrying wedding guests in Pakistan.

What caused the accident in Pakistan in which 26 people died?

Officials said that on Tuesday, November 12, a bus carrying guests of a wedding in northern Pakistan fell into a river, killing 26 people, including the bride and groom.

According to Pakistani media site Dawn, Diamer Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sher Khan said the bus was traveling from Astore to Chakwal in Punjab.

There were 27 passengers on the bus at the time, including the bride and groom, and rescue teams managed to retrieve 16 bodies from the river.

The bride, who was initially rescued but suffered serious injuries, was rushed to the Regional Headquarters (RHQ) Hospital in Gilgit and unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.

Initial investigations showed that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed on the Telchi bridge around 1pm and the vehicle veered towards the river below.

In his statement to X, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his “deep sorrow for the loss of precious lives in the accident.”

He also emphasized that search and rescue operations “must be accelerated” for those who have not yet been found. Al Jazeera reported.
