62-year-old woman charged with murder of 68-year-old man in Newcastle

A 68-year-old man who died following a suspicious attack in Newcastle has been identified by police as a woman accused of murder.

Officers received a report of a disturbance at a house in Scepter Place in the Elswick area of ​​the city at 6.30pm on Monday.

While emergency services arrived at the scene, it was determined that one person was seriously injured with a knife.

The man, now identified as Scepter Place’s John Hardy, died a short time later despite the efforts of paramedics.

Police said relatives had been informed and were being supported by specially trained officers.

The Northumbria force has confirmed that Brenda Heslop, 62, of Scepter Place, Newcastle, has been charged with murder.

He will appear before Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Mark Atherton, of the Force’s Main Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts remain with John’s family at this extremely difficult time.

“We will offer them all the support we can as we try to process the events of the last few days.”
