The IMA’s statement came after a government doctor was stabbed seven times with a knife by the patient’s son at the Kalaignar Centenary Hospital in Chennai.

“No amount of superficial damage control by governments can enable doctors to work without fear in this country,” he said in a letter.

“Strong deterrent laws, exemplary punishment and proactive security measures are needed here and now. All governments have been informed of this heinous crime. The country’s medical profession is deeply disturbed and skeptical about remedial measures for this situation of constantly recurring violence,” he added.

“Only a comprehensive overhaul of the security environment in hospitals can restore the trust of doctors. The nation owes this to its doctors,” the letter said.

Doctor stabbed 7 times by a patient in Chennai

IMA’s statement came after the murder of a government doctor stabbed seven times with a knife by the son of a patient at Kalaignar Centenary Hospital in Chennai on Wednesday.

Doctor Dr. was injured in his neck, ear, forehead, back and stomach after the attack. Balaji Jaganathan is currently receiving treatment in the ICU.

The defendant was arrested

Police arrested Vignesh, a resident of Chennai, who attacked Dr Balaji. He became angry because his mother allegedly did not receive the necessary treatment at the hospital.

The incident took place when Dr Balaji was working in the cancer ward of the government hospital. After the attack, Vignesh tried to escape but was caught and handed over to the police.

CM MK Stalin Replies

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin responded to the shocking incident by ordering the authorities concerned to conduct a detailed investigation.

“The dedicated work of our government doctors in providing appropriate treatment to patients in government hospitals is immeasurable. We must ensure their safety. “The government will take every precaution to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future,” he said.
