Warren brothers accused of killing sister’s boyfriend

Two Warren brothers have been charged in the death of their sister’s boyfriend.

Deandre Bernard Jones, 32, drove by 30-year-old Keshawna Smith and another sister to victim Stanley Smith Jr. on Friday, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release. He claimed he went to a Warren home where he was with.

According to the statement, the 23-year-old man was dating his other sister.

Investigators include Jones’ sisters and Stanley Smith Jr. He claims he encountered him outside the home and fatally shot him.

Prosecutors alleged that Keshawna Smith also deleted messages and call logs between herself and Jones about the shooting after the incident occurred.

“This tragic incident highlights the profound consequences of violence within families and communities,” Macomb County District Attorney Peter Lucido said in a statement. “We are committed to achieving justice for the victim and holding accountable those responsible for her death. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family as we work to ensure justice is served.”

Jones was charged with three felonies, including second-degree murder, use of a firearm during the commission of a crime and solicitation to tamper with evidence. He was arraigned Tuesday in 37th District Court in Warren and denied bail.

Keshawna Smith was charged with tampering with evidence and could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted. He was also arraigned in 37th District Court and assigned a $50,000 bond with no 10% deposit. If released, he will not be able to contact witnesses or his brother.

The brothers’ court-appointed attorneys were not listed in online court records as of Wednesday.

Probable cause hearings are scheduled for November 26. A preliminary examination is scheduled for December 3 before Judge Michael Chupa.

The case dovetails with other cases of violence involving romantic partners.

A Detroit man accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend at a Redford Township motel was recently arrested. chargedOfficials announced Monday.

She was a Pontiac woman prisoner for a similar case in 2019 in which she shot her boyfriend in his home.

Michigan law enforcement reported 685 cases of voluntary, non-negligent manslaughter or murder in 2022; data for this year is available through the Michigan Incident Crime Reporting program.

According to the Michigan State Police’s 2022 Michigan Crime Annual Report, law enforcement was only able to make arrests in 310 of those 685 incidents, or 48.5% of reported cases.
