Mobile Police: Suspect in Dauphin Street murder caught

Investigators say Zyyon Sanders shot Joseph Evans Jr. at the scene Dauphin Gate apartments Monday night.

Sanders allegedly allowed the battery in his ankle monitor to die before committing the crime.

District Attorney Keith Blackwood says he is very concerned about how this crime was committed.

“This is an absolute worst-case scenario that everyone in the community fears,” Blackwood said.

Sanders was arrested Wednesday morning following a search warrant in the area of Bankhead Avenue and Euclid Avenue.

The victim’s family says they were outraged after learning he was already in custody for murder.

“How many times does it take for a person to kill someone? Just like the second time, how many chances will they have?” Joseph Evans Sr. in question. “ITIt will be the third time that someone’s family has gone through what I and the first family went through. That’s why I hope justice will be served.”

Nyyon Sanders was charged with the murder of 25-year-old Joseph Evans Jr.

Man accused of Navco Road murder denied Bond

Court documents state that bail for both brothers was revoked.

Court documents also say the brothers were together during both of these alleged crimes.

The documents say his brother was not charged with the November slaying but violated his bond after allegedly traveling with Nyyon to an area outside his authorized travel.

Blackwood attributes this to a failure of the specialized ankle monitoring system.

He said the company wouldn’t be alerted that Sanders’ battery was dead until 8 a.m. the next morning.

“Again, this is another situation where there is a private ankle monitoring company tasked with monitoring someone who is out on bail,” Blackwood said. “That did not happen in this case and this defendant is alleged to have committed another murder.”

The prosecutor says he’s ready for the sheriff’s office to take over, but it’s all about money.

“It all depends on the funding our law enforcement agency needs to undertake this mission,” he said. “You must have the personnel and equipment to do this. “The sheriff’s office is again ready, willing and able to take on this mission.”

FOX10 News reached out to Accupoint in the past but did not hear back.

The trial for the 2022 murder is scheduled to begin on January 13, 2025.
