RG Kar rape murder suspect’s bizarre prison demands leave authorities reluctant to comply

Sanjay Roy, the sole accused in the RG Kar rape and murder case, continues to insist on his demands for preferential treatment in prison despite facing serious charges. Accordingly TelegramRoy recently requested chicken rolls and chowmein from the prison canteen; but the authorities rejected this request. He also reportedly described standard wool blankets as “itchy” and asked for cloth sheets instead. This request was also denied, following standard prison regulations.

Roy’s demands are not new. Shortly after his arrest he expressed dissatisfaction and even anger with the regular meal of roti and vegetables given to prisoners, demanding egg chowmein instead. News18. This previous request was also rejected because the prison authorities enforced uniform provisions for all inmates.

RG Kar rape-murder case is currently ongoing and key witnesses are testifying in court. So far six people, including four doctors, the victim’s father and a former local councillor, have given evidence and provided critical information about the case. Roy was allowed to attend the hearings but was denied the opportunity to speak.

While being taken to court, Roy was seen trying to communicate by waving his hands. Telegram. As he exited, he was allegedly heard saying he wasn’t allowed to speak.

The trial judge initially planned for the hearings to last four consecutive days, starting on November 11. Today, November 14, additional witnesses are expected to testify and the judge is likely to announce further trial dates.
